COMPREHENSIVE PLAN 2040

Our events, our parks & greenways, our proximity to Raleigh, our schools, our small town charm...Clayton is, well, kind of awesome!  It must be...our population has increased 131% from 2000 to 2010.  But if we don't plan for future growth, we risk missing opportunities AND we risk losing all that we love about Clayton. According to capital-area planners - the Town could DOUBLE in size in the next 30 years!

You've spoken and we listened.  Town Planners worked hard to craft your ideas into action and Town Council approved a comprehensive plan for growth and development that will guide us into the future!  With all the changes that are envisioned for our "little" Town, we can keep up with this implementation plan to help with all of this growth!

GREAT PLANS TRANSFORM TOWNS INTO GREAT PLACES

Our exploding growth presents many challenges for the community.  Where will people live?  What steps can the Town take to ensure quality development?  How will growth impact the region’s resources?  Can the existing systems of infrastructure support additional people, housing, jobs and cars?  These are all important questions that have been considered in the Comprehensive Plan.

DOWNTOWN AND LAND USE

Each town comes with their own unique charm and challenges.  Our downtown is full of different events and wonderfully unique historic buildings.  It is the heart of Clayton, and the Comprehensive Plan recognizes that.  So take a look at the Downtown Future Land Use Map and see what is planned for all things downtown.  Here you can find the descriptions of the land uses.  We have also been looking at the WHOLE Town so take a look at this map to see the Future Land Use for the Entire Town!

PARKS & RECREATION

Clayton has so many wonderful aspects for the families it is no wonder why we are the Premier Communities for Active Families!  To help keep our families active and exploring our community, we have created this terrific map to show what we have planned for all the trails and green spaces around Clayton.

BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN PATHS

We are always looking for ways to improve our citizens lives and providing bicycle and pedestrian paths is no exception!  As our Town grows, we are constantly on the look out to provide our citizens with more ways to get around Town.  Take a look at this map and see what we have planned for bicycle and pedestrian paths!

NATURAL & HISTORIC FEATURES

Looking for a great place to explore?  How about finding out where some parks are located in our Town?  This is a great map showing you where are the wetlands, streams and parks are located in and around our Town.

TRANSPORTATION PRIORITY PROJECTS

We have beautiful trails and bike paths, charming historic downtown, but what about the roads?  We have several projects in the works for the roads in and around Town.  Here is a map showing proposed or affected roads.  Check out this section from the Comp plan that explains what we are going to be doing with our roads.

Can't believe we've grown?  Check out these incredible stats!
