A Message from the Chief
The Clayton Police Department is a forward thinking, professional and innovative agency that consists of 43 sworn officers and 3 civilians. We believe that we can be most effective when we work with community partners to reduce and prevent crime. To that end, we strive to reach out to the citizens of Clayton and those who visit our Town in order to create a dialog that empowers both citizens and law enforcement.
The Clayton Police Department is internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This accreditation is an excellent method for an agency to voluntarily demonstrate their commitment to excellence in law enforcement. Our agency has been accredited since 2009.
Our department is broken down into three divisions. The Patrol Services Division is the largest and consists of line officers and supervisors who are responsible for answering the public’s calls for service and taking preventive action to reduce crime. This division addresses the entire range of police services.
The Administrative Services Division specializes in areas of police service that are not addressed by other divisions because of time constraints. They handle Neighbor Watch Programs, requests for officers to visit groups, and tours of our facility. They also work special projects throughout Town in order to address specific issues. This division includes the Community Action Team (CAT), Traffic Unit, training component, and accreditation.
The Investigative Services Division handles follow-up investigations, narcotics/vice investigation and juvenile services. There are eight detectives assigned to this division.
Each member of the Clayton Police Department places special emphasis on service to the public and the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics. Whether you live in Clayton or visit; our ultimate goal is to ensure that you do so with confidence and safety.
