On Saturday, March 11, martial artists from across the state will travel to our Town to compete in the USA Taekwondo 2017 North Carolina State Championship – a qualifier to fight for Team USA!
We're hosting the bouts at the Clayton Community Center, located at 715 Amelia Church Road, and we're expecting a big turnout. For our regular Saturday visitors, that means the facility will be CLOSED for the day. We apologize for the inconvenience, and invite you instead to take a trip to one of our parks located around Town. If you usually walk at the community center, you can use our paved half-mile trail at neighboring Clayton Community Park (1075 Amelia Church Road), or take a stroll along one of our greenways and trails – just be aware some greenway sections are still closed due to damage from Hurricane Matthew.
For those who want to check out the action at the Taekwondo tournament, tickets cost $12 and kids ages 5 and under get in free. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m., with opening ceremonies to follow at 8:30 a.m. The fighting begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m.
You may even see Team USA’s next Olympic gold medalist!
