WEEK SIX: Have You Voted for Your Favorite Sculpture?

02/20/2017

It's the second-to-last round of the 2016-17 Clayton Sculpture Trail People's Choice Award! Who will go on to compete for $1,000 in the finals? The choice is YOURS!

This week's match up pits the literal versus the abstract, as two nature-inspired metal sculptures go head to head.

Cathy Perry's "Oasis," which you'll find in Horne Square, transports the viewer to the banks of a pristine lake. Perry lives just east of Greenville in a little town near the Pamlico River called Chocowinity. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual arts, sculpture and textiles from Western Kentucky University. She also has a degree in business administration from Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.

If you prefer a much more abstract take on the natural world, look for Adam Walls' "Tree" adorning the roundabouts at Spring Branch Medical Park. Walls is a large-scale sculptor from Hope Mills and a professor at UNC-Pembroke, where he has taught since 2007. His sculptures have been exhibited in numerous sculpture parks and sculpture exhibitions across the country. Walls' current work is predominantly monumentally scaled steel fabricated forms which often reflect his interest in escapist fantasy.

Click the links above to learn more about each sculpture – including videos where the artists share their inspiration for each work – and use the option below to vote for your favorite!  We'll tally the votes for Week Six midnight Sunday, Feb. 26.

Each year, the Town of Clayton Public Art Advisory Board helps bring to our Town new, unique sculptures created by artists from across the state and beyond. You'll find them all over Downtown Clayton, at the Clayton Community Center – and, new this year, at Spring Branch Medical Park on N.C. 42.
