Traffic Taking a Turn on N.C. 42 in Clayton

Starting today, Thursday, October 25th, 2012, crews will begin construction of a median on N.C. 42 at Johnson Estate Road, which is just east of the Clayton Bypass. It's in front of the exciting new Spring Branch Medical and Commercial Park soon to be home to medical offices and a much-needed, 77-bed assisted living facility.

The work will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and is expected to last approximately three days, weather permitting.

This median was required following an NCDOT review of a traffic impact analysis at this location. Due to heavy traffic volumes on N.C. 42 heading towards the Clayton Bypass from Clayton, traffic on Johnson Estate Road would have to wait for traffic to clear before turning left onto N.C. 42.

Once the median is constructed, drivers on Johnson Estate Road will NOT be able to turn left onto N.C. 42 to head toward Clayton. But the change is not as bad as it sounds because there are several easy options to safely get where you want to go.  You can enter onto N.C. 42 and simply make a U-turn at the next light, or you can now conveniently travel through the medical park along MedSpring Drive and either turn left out of the main entrance on Springbrook Avenue, or travel down to Johnston Medical Center and make a left onto 42 at the traffic light at the hospital entrance.

N.C. 42 will remain open to traffic during construction; however, lane closures may be in place periodically to allow crews to bring in construction equipment.
