3rd Annual Sculpture Trail
Town leaders, along with Clayton's Public Art Advisory Board, couldn't be prouder of the nine creative and visually enhancing pieces that are part of our 3rd Annual Downtown Clayton Sculpture Trail! For the 2015-2016 year, we're featuring a chainsaw artist and our first piece by a Clayton artist! The sculptures adorn our public squares, our library, town hall and, for the first time, we're showcasing one at the Clayton Community Center! From a well-dressed humorous frog to the depiction of a mother and child sculpted from steel, this year's pieces will surprise and delight our visitors and residents alike.
- "Sunrise, Sunset" by Jordan Parah at Town Square
- "Blue Cube" by Hanna Jubran at Front Street Roundabout
- "Mother and Child" by Adam Walls at Town Hall
- "InMotion" by Jeff Kiefer at Town Square
- "Reincarnation" by Matt Amante at Horne Square
- "Fiddle Frog" by Corey Lancaster at Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library
- "Duplexity" by Charlie Brouwer at Horne Square
- "Up, Up and Away" by Jordan Parah at Clayton Community Center
- "Spirit Tree" by Cathy Perry at Horne Square
There are 9 locations, including three in Horne Square on Main Street, two in Town Square, one at the Clayton Library, one at The Clayton Center, one in the circle on the East Front Street extension, and the new sculpture location at the Clayton Community Center. Each sculpture is accompanied by a plaque recognizing the artist and incorporating a scannable code that allows visitors to use their mobile devices to watch a video and learn more about each piece and its artist right there as they stand in front of the sculpture! They were reviewed and selected by a committee of local artists, business owners, Town staff and the Public Art Advisory Board.
All the selected artists receive a $1,000 honorarium for lending their sculpture to us for the coming year, from May 1, 2015 to May 1, 2016. In addition, each artist will be eligible to compete in a People's Choice vote in which the public selects the winner of an additional $1,000 award. The artists are also featured on brochures that are distributed to businesses and organizations throughout the area.
"I'm really proud of the work of the Public Art Advisory Board," said Mayor Jody McLeod. "This is exactly the type of project that helps us promote our goal of securing the Town of Clayton as an art community."
