It’s the first Monday in October, and we’re excited to introduce Engineer Matthew Andrasko as this month’s #MeetUsMonthly feature. Andrasko has been with the Clayton Fire Department since January 2023, bringing 19 years of experience in the fire service.
On a typical day, Andrasko oversees driving the engine, making sure the truck is prepared and ready for any emergency that may come the department’s way. "I make sure the truck is good to go, and I’m ready to respond when called," said Andrasko. "The job keeps me on my toes. No two days are the same, and that’s what keeps it interesting."
Originally from Clinton, Andrasko’s path to Clayton began in 2006 when he started in the fire service at Taylor's Bridge. He spent 10 years in Clinton and two years in Wilson before joining the Clayton Fire Department. "Over the years, I’ve gathered all my certifications and experience, which have helped me get where I am today," explained Andrasko.
Andrasko values the camaraderie he’s found at Clayton Fire. "There’s a great firefighter culture here," he said. "It feels like a family, and I’m enjoying it."
When asked what advice he would offer someone considering a career in the fire service, Andrasko emphasized the mental and physical preparation required. "Being a firefighter is tough, but it’s the best job there is. You have to be mentally and physically ready for whatever comes your way," he explained. "You never know what you're going to get on a daily basis, so it’s important to stay open-minded and ready to think on your feet."
Outside of work, Andrasko enjoys bear hunting and training dogs, a hobby that keeps him busy and active. "I train my dogs and keep them ready for hunting season," he said. "It’s a great way to unwind and stay active."
We’re proud to have Engineer Matthew Andrasko as part of the Clayton Fire Department and look forward to the continued impact he’ll make on the department and community.
