From humble beginnings as an all-volunteer force utilizing hand-drawn buggies to our current status as a modern, paid department, our focus remains steadfast: protecting our community through continuous improvement and unparalleled service.

The Clayton Fire Department operates two stations, covering over 50 square miles in the northwestern part of Johnston County. With a service area population exceeding 50,000 and growing, we are entrusted with the protection of lives and property in both urban and rural settings. As a non-transport, EMT department, approved by the Johnston County Emergency Services Medical Director, our highly trained personnel are equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, medical incidents, hazardous materials situations, motor vehicle accidents, and specialized rescues.

Special Operations 

Our department boasts a specialized team trained in various technical rescue disciplines, including vehicle extrication, confined space rescue, rope rescue, trench and collapse rescue, and water rescue. With over 30 technicians and instructors, we are equipped to handle the most challenging rescue scenarios with precision and expertise.

As a testament to our commitment to excellence, the Clayton Fire Department holds a favorable insurance grade, directly impacting homeowners' insurance rates.
